Time Tickets Opening -- Fall Registration Begins

Most time tickets are opening over the next few days, so I wanted to try to answer some common questions and remind you that I am still available if you need to make an advising appointment.  You should have received an email from the Freshman Advising Center that had some FAQs related to registration on Monday as well.  As you know, the registration process is pretty easy and intuitive, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t have any questions or concerns as you go through it again.  Please know that I want to help you and am available if you happen to run into any issues.  Just contact me by phone or email!

BUT also please read this THOROUGHLY - your question might be answered below (and save you an email or phone call). If you haven’t met with me yet, you schedule an appointment through AdvisorTrac.  At this point I do still have some times available for appointments over the next several days and next week. These are, of course, still remote appointments that will occur by phone, video, or email.

DO I HAVE TO REGISTER AS SOON AS MY TIME TICKET OPENS? No – classes begin on August 23 and you will have through August 29 to finalize your fall schedule. However, the sooner you sign up, the better (as you will have better options).

CAN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET WITH YOU AND SCHEDULE CLASSES? If you need to schedule an appointment get online and schedule it through AdvisorTrac (my.bsu.edu). I do still have a handful of openings available and would be happy to meet to discuss fall (or summer) classes.

THE CLASS THAT I REALLY NEED IS FULL!  WHAT DO I DOThe best advice I can give is to be patient. Departments try their best to accommodate students, however there is only so much classroom space available on campus. Remember that you have until August to finalize your fall schedule. People may drop the class or a new section might be added. Keep checking as often as you can for space to open. You never know when a space might pop up. If you are convinced that you have a very unique reason as to why you should be able to join a class that is full (and there is no waiting list to join), you can contact the department directly to see if they agree. Some classes will allow you to join a waiting list.

HOW DO I JOIN A WAITING LIST? Not all classes offer a waiting list. If a waiting list is available, you will see a number in the "WL CAP" (waiting list capacity) column. If the class does have a waiting list and the class is full, try adding it like you would if there was space open (even though it is full). Since it is full and they are utilizing the waiting list, you should be prompted to join the waiting list. If/when space opens, you will get an email letting you know and reminding you that you only have 24 hours to add the class before permission is revoked and given to the next person on the waiting list.

HOW DO I GET RID OF MY HOLDS? If you have a hold on your account you will not be able to register until it is resolved. You should contact the office that issued the hold to see what you need to do to resolve the hold. To view your holds please log into your my.bsu.edu account with your BSU username and password, then go to Self-Service Banner, followed by student->student records-> view institutional holds. You can also view your holds in your DegreeWorks at the top of the page.

WHY CAN'T I SIGN UP FOR AN ONLINE CLASS? Not all online space is available to on-campus students. Try to add the class - some space is open to all students. If you cannot add an online class, you will get a “reserved spaces” error message and may have to wait until early August when reserved seats are released to the general student population.
